Subject: The Colorado Rockies can finally relax on the flight home. Posted: Tuesday, January 8, 2019 - 01:10:46

MILWAUKEE (AP) —Nolan Arenado hit a go-ahead homer with two outs in the 11th inning and the Colorado Rockies beat the Milwaukee Brewers 5-4 on Sunday thanks to an overturned replay review.Arenado’s 29th homer of the season came off Brewers closer Corey Knebel (2-2) and helped the Rockies avoid a sweep Tug McGraw Jersey , giving them a sigh of relief after finishing an otherwise tough Midwest trip losers of five of seven.“These games, they’ve been extremely stressful,” Arenado said. “They’ve been tough on us. We needed to win that game.”With Colorado closer Wade Davis struggling, the Brewers rallied for three runs in the ninth off Adam Ottavino in a save situation. Given a second chance, newly acquired reliever Seunghwan Oh closed out the Brewers in the 11th.Scott Oberg (7-0) got the win, allowing a hit erased by a double play in the 10th.Nothing came easy, though.Oh allowed a hit to Travis Shaw to lead off the 11th. After getting Ryan Braun to fly out, Jonathan Schoop singled to put men on first and second.Erik Kratz then hit a grounder, and Schoop was forced out at second. Kratz was initially ruled safe at first, but it took 58 seconds to overturn the call on video review, ending the game on the double play.“Didn’t see it, I assume they got it right,” Kratz said. “We have to assume they got it right.”It was Oh’s first save since coming from Toronto in a July 26 trade.Davis, who blew consecutive save opportunities on Thursday and Friday, could only watch Ottavino do the same in a wild ninth inning.“He had some unfortunate happenings around him Drew Hutchison Jersey ,” Rockies manager Bud Black said.Trailing 4-1, Mike Moustakas led off with a homer for the Brewers. After an out, Braun reached base on a catcher’s interference call, and with two outs and two strikes, Ottavino threw a wild pitch that Kratz swung at.Kratz reached first on the swinging strikeout, and with new life, Orlando Arcia doubled to score Braun. With Kratz on third, Ottavino uncorked another wild pitch, allowing Kratz to score, tying it at 4-all and sending the game to extra innings.GRAY GREATThe blown save in the ninth erased a sterling performance by Rockies starter Jon Gray.He allowed one run over eight innings, scattering four hits and two walks while striking out eight, including the final three batters he faced. In his last four starts, Gray has dropped his ERA more than a full point to 4.73 by allowing just five runs over 29 2/3 innings.ARENADO’S SPINArenado saved a run in the sixth with some nifty glove work. With runners on the corners and two outs, the third baseman snagged Braun’s chopper moving backward in the hole to his left, then spun and fired a strike to Ian Desmond at first.“You don’t really think about it until you watch the replay Larry Bowa Jersey ,” Arenado said. “It’s hard to impress Bud because he’s been around a long time, but he even said it’s one of the greatest plays he’s ever seen from me.”STREAKING STORYTrevor Story homered for the third straight game with a three-run shot off Brewers starter Wade Miley in the fifth.Story now has four homers over his last three games, including two in Saturday night’s loss, and 24 on the season. In seven games against the Brewers this season, he’s hit seven homers to go along with 18 RBIs.NEW BREWThe Milwaukee Brewers claimed right-hander Jordan Lyles off waivers from the San Diego. The 27-year-old Lyles is 2-4 with a 4.29 ERA in 24 appearances, including eight starts, this season. Brewers general manager David Stearns expects to activate Lyles Tuesday or Wednesday.TRAINING ROOMRockies: Colorado placed RHP Antonio Senzatela (shoulder inflammation) on the 10-day disabled list. The club hopes that RHP Chad Bettis (blister) can come off the DL and take Senzatela’s turn in the rotation Tuesday. OF David Dahl was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque to take Senzatela’s spot on the roster.Brewers: OF Lorenzo Cain and 1B Jesus Aguilar each had scheduled days off, but appeared as pinch hitters.UP NEXTRockies: Colorado hopes left-hander Kyle Freeland (9-7, 3.20 ERA) finally finds success against Pittsburgh when the Rockies open a three-game set against the Pirates on Monday night. Freeland is 1-2 with a 6.32 ERA against Pittsburgh, including allowing five runs in an April 18 loss.Brewers: Milwaukee has a day off on Monday before starting a three-game series against San Diego. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Stephen Strasburg made all the necessary adjustments. The right-hander threw six effective innings, Matt Wieters hit a solo homer and the Washington Nationals beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-3 Monday night.Strasburg (7-7) gave up two runs and five hits, striking out five to rebound from a rough start against Philadelphia last week in his return from the disabled list.“So many little things hitters try to pick, so you always have to look at the tendencies,” Strasburg said. “It was progress.”The Phillies fell 3 1/2 games behind first-place Atlanta in the NL East after losing the opener for the seventh straight series. They’re 6-12 since Aug. 8 and have dropped five games in the standings during that span.Zach Eflin (9-5) allowed five runs — three earned — and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings. His throwing error in the fourth cost him.The Nationals had the bases loaded with one out that inning when Strasburg put a bunt down. Eflin picked it up barehanded and his underhand toss to the plate sailed high for an error, allowing the go-ahead run to score.Adam Eaton followed with a slow roller to the same spot and Eflin made the exact same play and got the out at home.Trea Turner then knocked in another run on a bloop single that fell in because left fielder Rhys Hoskins broke back at first.“We gave them additional outs and you can’t do that against this team http://www.philliesfanproshop.com/authentic-jim-bunning-jersey ,” Phillies manager Gabe Kapler said.Eaton greeted reliever Luis Avilan with an RBI double in the sixth to make it 5-2.Hoskins crushed Ryan Madson’s first pitch in the eighth for his 27th homer.Justin Miller tossed a perfect ninth for his first save in his first try in his 39th appearance.“He comes in and brings so much energy on the mound,” Strasburg said. “The hard work pays off.”Washington took two of three from the Phillies at home last week after trading Daniel Murphy to the Cubs and Matt Adams to the Cardinals.Down 2-0 in the third, the Phillies tied it on an RBI triple by Roman Quinn and an RBI single by Cesar Hernandez. Strasburg struck out Asdrubal Cabrera swinging to strand runners at second and third.Eflin retired the first two batters before Bryce Harper, Anthony Rendon and Juan Soto hit three straight singles in the first to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead.Wieters led off the second with his sixth homer to make it 2-0. He said he was using a new bat after realizing the one he used the past few games was cracked.Strasburg allowed five runs and seven hits over four innings in Washington’s 8-7 win against Philadelphia last Wednesday.“He was able to locate his fastball, throw a high fastball, and made corrections since the last start,” Wieters said.BOOING THE BUFFALOWilson Ramos was thrown out trying to go first to third on Cabrera’s single to right and heard boos from Phillies fans even though he is playing hurt. Ramos recently returned from a hamstring injury and isn’t healthy enough to do more than jog, but he’s Philadelphia’s cleanup hitter and wants to be in the lineup to help the team chase a playoff spot.“He’s playing through a lot,” Kapler said. “He’s a guy who gives everything he has and he showed a lot of toughness.”NEW MAN ON TOPQuinn led off for the first time and Hernandez batted third for just the third time in 641 career games.TRAINER’S ROOMNationals: RHP Kelvin Herrera was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a torn Lisfranc ligament in his left foot. Madson took his spot after he was reinstated from the DL.Phillies: LHP Austin Davis (lower back tightness) began a rehab assignment at Triple-A Lehigh Valley. … INF Pedro Florimon (broken right foot) is continuing his rehab in Triple-A. … RHP Jerad Eickhoff (lat strain, finger) is expected to join the team when rosters expand Saturday.UP NEXTRHP Aaron Nola (15-3, 2.13 ERA) and RHP Max Scherzer (16-6, 2.13) face each other for the second straight outing when the Phillies and Nationals meet Tuesday night. Nola tossed eight innings in Philadelphia’s 2-0 win at Washington last Thursday.
