Subject: Mediation and Asset Divide done, what happens when we divorce? Posted: Thursday, January 23, 2014 - 15:55:19

Hi All,

Wonder whether anyone can help?

My (ex) wife and I separated 9 months ago and went through mediation and divided all our assets with a view to waiting 2 years before divorcing.

My parents are intending to give me a large sum of money for use as a deposit on a property, it has been suggested by a non family law solicitor that my ex could be entitled to half of that money and also half of my new property when we divorce.  This solicitor did not however know about our mediation and the agreements made during those sessions.

Does anyone know what would happen at the time of divorce? Surely the whole reason we went to mediation was to separate everything.

Thanks in advance,

Matt.
